This year is John Smedley’s 225th anniversary, a luxury knitwear company from Derbyshire, England. Still family owned the company enjoys a reputation of unparalleled quality by successfully combining tradition with modern techniques.
Sourcing the world’s finest luxury fibres, their signatures being New Zealand merino wool and John Smedley’s sea island cotton, they are able to produce superior fine gauge material that is unique only to their brand.
In celebration of 225 years of perfection, a super fine micron collection has been made from the softest and most delicate yarn John Smedley has ever produced. At 13.5 microns, the New Zealand Merino wool used is so rare that only one in a million sheep are capable of producing this very fine fibre. Pictured above is the men’s v-neck from the exclusive collection.
There are 25,400 microns (μ) in one inch, which means that 13.5μ Merino wool is incredibly fine – even finer than cashmere.

Below are a few of our picks from the current collection.

And a few images from the upcoming Spring/Summer 2010 collection.
